BRIDGE AND BRIDGE PLATE REPAIRS
Of all the parts on a guitar, bridges and bridge plates are the most vulnerable link in the string tension equation. The more common bridge repairs are simple re-gluing of a lifted bridge or careful duplication of unsalvageable ones. Bridge plate repairs range from filling and re-reaming bridge pin holes, to full bridge plate replacement. All work of this nature includes a set up.
This is a 1957 Martin 00-18 that had a lot of bridge problems. The oversized bridge could not be salvaged and the bridge plate was worn and warped. The plate was steamed off and a new one was made and glued in. When the old bridge was removed, a portion of the top came with it and so a spruce patch was constructed and glued in place. Then the new bridge was cut and shaped from matching Brazilian Rosewood to retain the original look of the guitar.
