FRET REPAIRS
A sure sign of worn frets, other than the obvious visual appearance, is a buzzing or "unclear" tone on certail fretted notes. Dpending on the severity of the fret wear, the problem may be solved by either a fret dress, partial refret, or a full refret.
A fret dress requires all the fres to be filed on an even plane removing all signs of string wear. A crown is then carefully shaped back on each individual fret, follwed by a succesion of polishing.
When the fret damage or inconsistencies in the fingerboard itself necessitate a full refret, all the frets are removed, the fingerboard is leveled and new frets are installed, surfaced, crowned, and polished. In some cases, a partial refret may be done. We are experienced with all types of fret wire from vintage bar frets to stainless steel. All fret work includes a set up.
